Resume templates for students

If you're still in school, your education goes first and your projects count as experience. These six templates leave room for coursework, projects and campus roles on one page, and you can move sections into any order in the editor.

SWE

One column, Lato

The sample is a new graduate: education first, then an internship, a teaching role and projects with links. A clean pick for CS and engineering students.

Use this template: SWE

JV

One column, Computer Modern

The same new-graduate sample in Computer Modern, the typeface many STEM students know from LaTeX.

Use this template: JV

Campus

One column, Helvetica

Based on a university career-office template. The sample is mid-career, so move Education to the top.

Use this template: Campus

Graduate

One column, Helvetica

From a postgraduate business-school format. Dense and formal, for master's and MBA students.

Use this template: Graduate

Institute

One column, Charter

The dense format used at Indian institutes, with a results table for your degree. Its table failed our ATS check, so use it for campus placement rather than online forms.

What counts when you don't have much yet

  • Class projects with a result. Say what you built and what happened: how many people used it, or what grade or prize it won.
  • Club and campus roles. A treasurer who ran a budget has a real bullet to write.
  • Part-time jobs. Waiting tables and working retail show reliability and customer skills, so list them.
  • Coursework. Name the three or four classes closest to the job, not your whole transcript.
  • Your GPA, if it's 3.0 or higher or the posting asks for it. The GPA guide covers the format and when to remove it.

Starting from a sample

When you use a template, your new resume opens with its sample text. That shows you what each section is for, and you replace it as you go. You don't need an account to do this, only to download the PDF.

Common questions

Should a student's resume be one page?
Yes. Students and new graduates rarely have enough directly relevant experience to fill two pages, and recruiters for internships expect a single page. Every template here is one page anyway.
Should students write a summary?
It's optional. Two lines can help when you're targeting a specific role or changing fields. If it would only repeat your education, leave it out and use the space for a project.
